Sidewalk catwalk

Except for the rolling racks of clothing being shuttled along the sidewalks and across intersections, New York's historic Garment District usually looks deceptively like any other high-energy part of this high-energy city. Not so this summer.

A group of talented New York designers have taken their creativity to the street presenting a "Sidewalk Catwalk" display of individually and remarkably dressed mannequins posed runway-style along Broadway between Herald Square and Times Square.

Glimpsing this parade of what-to-wear ideas, experiments and statements, tourists, business people, and locals alike get an on-site peek at what the Garment District, now on the city's endangered list, is all about.
